An argentinean vintage ?

merlot berries ripen skins
While harvest is completed and fermentations end slowly, we can already say that 2009 has been an exceptional year on a climatic point of view.

At a time that we hear more and more about tasting differences between Malbec from Argentina and Malbec from Cahors (see on Dr vino), climate of last months at Chateau Paillas reminds climate of Mendoza, very warm, dry and sunny. The maturity of tannins was obtained (see the picture of a bunch of Merlot which skin is so thin that it peels easily), but rather late, while concentration and maturation was still going on. The result : a "hot" wine, rich in alcohol.

2009 will be an exceptional vintage ? it is still too early to tell.
